On 19th June 2008, Wicklow County Enterprise Board organised the Celebrating Enterprise event where they presented awards to 10 of the leading enterpreneurs in the Wicklow area. The event was hosted by television presenter Anna Nolan.

In this clip we hear from Laura Thorpe, founder of Laura’s Bakery.

Laura’s Bakery manufactures a range of bakery products including shortbread, cookies, chocolate brownies, all based on spelt, a low gluten highly nutritious and easily digestible grain. The products appeal to those on restricted diets and also to the growing number of people interested in consuming healthy and organic foods.

Based in Kilcoole industrial estate since 2004, the company supplies high-end coffee shops and food halls such as Butler’s Chocolate Cafes, Avoca, Arnotts, Munchies, Nude, Wrights of Howth and ‘Fresh & Wild’ outlets in the UK.

Laura was a regional winner of the southern region Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2005 and Winner of the ‘Women Mean Business’ magazine Breakthrough Award 2007.

Laura takes a proactive approach to continuing product development as well as actively seeking out new markets including export markets.
